altAndijan region is located in the eastern part of the Fergana Valley at the foothill of the Fergana and Alay mountains. The Karadarya River cuts through the region from the eastern to the western part, its waters are mainly used for irrigation. Andijan region is considered as one of the most densely populated regions in Uzbekistan. Almost 9 % of the total population of Uzbekistan resides on the territory, which makes up only one percent of the total territory of the country. Mechanic construction, metal processing, chemical industry, electro mechanics and cotton refining are the most important industrial activities. The first car production complex "UzDaewooAuto" in Central Asia was opened in Asaka city of Andijan region.

titleThe Fergana region is located in the southern part of the Fergana Valley, bordered by the Tien-Shen Mountains and Sirdarya River, one of the major sources of water for the region. The Region has an ethnically diverse population and is the second most populous region in Uzbekistan with approximately 2.8 million people living in its territory, approximately 10% of the country’s population. Approximately 70% of the population lives in rural areas. Fergana region is one of the most industrially developed regions in Uzbekistan with over 170 industrial enterprises. The most developed branches of the economy are textile, silk processing, chemicals, and oil processing.

altThe Republic of Karakalpakstan is a sovereign state within the Republic of Uzbekistan.Karakalpakstan has its own peculiarities which define the characterof its economy and infrastructure. Low density of thepopulation and vast areas of land significantly increase the cost of investments into its industrial, physical and social infrastructure. The impact of the Aral Sea disaster continues to be one of the major development challenges in the region and in the country, with governance becoming a key issue within the context of environmental management. The main sectors of the economy are agriculture - cotton, rice, karakul sheep, and cattle - and energy production, textile and food industry.

altNamangan region is in the north-western part of the Fergana Valley at the foothills Chatkal and Kuramin Mountains. The Sirdarya River, its inflows and a set of artificial canals are the source for irrigation waters. Namangan region is one of the most densely populated regions in Central Asia with an estimated total population of 2 million. It is a rich agricultural region, producing cotton, grain, rice, fruits and vegetables. There is also a significant industrial base in the region, with major industries being agricultural production and processing, agricultural machinery, oil and oil refinement, chemicals and fertilizers.

Bringing Income Generation Initiatives Closer to Communities
 
This week the EU-UNDP Enhancement of Living Standards in Fergana Valley (ELS) Programme organized a practical seminar at one of the demonstration plots in Uychi district of Namangan region.
The seminar was on domestic aviculture and was attended by members of small farmer and dehkhan farms, and specialists from Fergana Valley, Kashkadarya region and Karakalpakstan.
