The objective of the Enhancement of Living Standards Coordination Corner is for the coordinators and staff of projects and initiatives working to improve of living standards in Uzbekistan and across borders. The Coordination Corners allows us to meet, talk, exchange ideas and benefit from each other experience for better coordination, information, cooperation and improved visibility of our efforts and results on the ground.
The corner would like to become a kind of club of practitioner in Uzbekistan and Central Asia where one can relax, have a chat with colleagues, post a query, share terms of reference or a project evaluation or simply go through the photo galley of a similar project in a neighboring UNDP Country Office.

These endeavours will contribute to improving the coherence and coordination within and across borders enabling donor and implementing agencies to take on tasks collectively which in turn will make a greater impact on every day people’s lives.

Both networking and information sharing require a progressive and interactive approach. The coordination scheme has a long-term perspective which will further consolidate the framework for cooperation through the realisation of concrete results in different regions which have their own specific problems but which also share common development issues.

On June 25, 2007, the EU-UNDP Enhancement of Living Standards in Fergana region project hosted a first meeting of coordinators and staff of joint EU-UNDP projects for improvement of living standards in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Representatives from the ELS Project, UNDP Kyrgyzstan and UNDP Tajikistan took part in the event.

In the welcoming words from the Programme Coordinator of the EU-UNDP Ehnancement of Living Standards (ELS) Programme in Uzbekistan noted that it is important to meet, talk, exchange ideas and benefit from each other's experience for better coordination, information, cooperation and improved visibility of efforts and results on the ground.

The agenda of the meeting also included presentations by ELS Programme Coordinator – Ms. Laura Rio on “Achievements, problems and cooperation”; Ms. Nuria Choibaeva, UNDP Kyrgyzstan and Mr. Ahad Mahmoudov, UNDP Tadjikistan also made presentations on their activities and experiences in their countries. All the presentations were of interest to participants and provoked interactive discussions. The meeting gave the opportunity to think and come together for the enhancement of living standards.
