A group composed by representatives of
the local government, ministries, civil society organizations and
business sector met for within the framework of the project
"Enhancement of Living Standards in Karakalpakstan". The meeting was
held on April 28 2005 at the UNDP Project Support Office in Nukus
A group composed by representatives of the
local government, ministries, civil society organizations and business
sector met for within the framework of the project “Enhancement of
Living Standards in Karakalpakstan”. The meeting was held on April 28
2005 at the UNDP Project Support Office in Nukus. The meeting served as an opportunity for the group to come
together and agree on how the reach one of the main objectives of the
project, the preparation of the Regional Development Strategy for
Karakalpakstan. During the meeting the group agreed on the Terms of Reference of
the Regional Development Strategy and finalized a workplan for its
preparation, which includes mapping of living standards in the three
pilot districts of Kegeili, Shumanay and Karauzyak located in the lower
part of the Amu Darya River. The European Union and United Nations Development Program
“Enhancement of Living Standards”, which operates in Karakalpakstan and
Namangan region, aims at improving the lives of local communities. It
offers them opportunities to work together with authorities in the
development of regional/local development strategies and implement
community development projects. It also gives low income population
opportunities to access finance and business services. A similar workshop is to be held in Namangan to include the
districts of Kasansai, Chartak and Uchkurgan, courtesy of the
Khokimiyat of Namangan Region, on 05 May 2005.
