Chartak city. Ageing gas infrastructures have meant that local people
have not had proper heating during the winter. The idea to install a
new gas pipelines was conceived and presented by the community to the
Chartak Khokimiyat gas supply department for support. The community of
Bulon undertook to contribute labour and their own resources for the
installation of the pipes. Thanks to the ELS project, which uses EU
funds to help communities in pilot districts to rehabilitate their
social infrastructures and the combined local efforts, Bulon community
will have more reliable heating now.
The “Enhancement of Living Standards in
Namangan region” project, financed by the European Union (EU) and
implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the
period 2005-2006, offers concrete opportunities to the local
communities to take an active part in the improvement of their living
standards thorough the preparation of a regional development strategy,
support to communities in the rehabilitation of social infrastructures
and access by disadvantaged groups and small farmers to microfinance.
The project uses Millennium Development Goals to encourage dialogue
with the communities on how they support their own development by
relying on their own strengths and capabilities. |
