| ELS in Karakalpakstan inaugurates a health centre |

On August 30, 2006 the EU/UNDP funded ELS project inaugurated a community based project in locality Diykhanabad
of Shomanay district, Karakalpakstan.
The project, carried out in
cooperation with the district Khokimiyat, the Ministry of Health and
local people made possible for the community to construct a new
building for the village primary health care post and purchase basic
medical equipment.Now, thanks to the efforts of the
project and the contribution of the community the 5525 people will have
medical help close to their homes, for example in medical emergencies,
to attend births, immunize children, treat diseases, get advice on
contraception, tuberculosis treatment, information on HIV/AIDS and
qualified advice on how to stay healthy. For the community of
Diykhanabad that’s all what the Millennium Development Goals are about.
Through this project, the people are showing how much they care for
their community and that they are ready to help the country archive
these important goals by 2015.
Representatives of the
local Khokimiyat, the Ministry of Health and other participants said
that this project was a gift that helped everybody to celebrate the
National Holiday of Independence and the «Year of Doctors and Charity".
Bakhodur Paluaniyazov, the ELS project Manager said: “our project is
proud to assist the country celebrate Independence Day by showing
concretely what we can do best: helping the communities to help
themselves”.Community people
would like to say thanks to the European Union for financing this
community project and to UNDP for coordinating and managing all the
work that went into it. The Ministry of Health and the local community
will ensure that the centre is properly maintained to benefit present
