Each year, millions of women, newborns, and children die from diseases and conditions that can be prevented and cured. What is then that goes wrong? To this and other questions participants of the seminar in Andijan tried to find answers. In their quest they focused on the improvement of legal regulation of maternal and child health in Uzbekistan.

The “Convention on Children’s Rights”, Regulations guaranteeing “Children’s rights” and the National Action Plan for Child Welfare in Uzbekistan are the corner stone for any action discussed in defense of mother and child wellbeing. The participants took the challenge in earnest and elaborated development plans for district projects to be included in the Khokimiyat annual plans for improving maternal and child welfare in the region. The event ended with a spirited discussion on how Uzbekistan can achieve the Millennium Development Goals 4 – Reduce Child Mortality and 5 – Improve Maternal Health.
