In her opening speech, Ms. Nirody noted that ABD and ELS are flagship projects of UNDP, assisting in dealing with socio-economic issues at the local level. Deputy Minister of Economy, Mr. R.Shoabdurakhmanov noted the fruitful cooperation between the United Nations Development Programme, the European Union and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan under the ABD and ELS projects, as well as to enhance the effectiveness of their implementation. Mr. K.Bobojonov, Technical Advisor and acting Coordinator of the ELS/ABD Programme presented the progress of the implementation of "Enhancement of Living Standards" and "Area Based Development" projects.  In conclusion, participants gave an assessment to projects results for the last period and elaborated strategic directions for the upcoming period.

At the end of the Committee meeting guests had an opportunity to enjoy a unique exhibition, consisting of samples and models reflecting the projects progress in improving social infrastructure, as well as the results of the third Programme component - activities of private farmers and entrepreneurs at the micro level presented in the form of food, handicraft products and ceramics. In addition, the participants could watch video demonstrating ELS/ABD Programme activities for the past five years, which included some documentary shots from the Programme implementation history.
