Little white house and children’s smiling faces appeared on the drawing of the little girl. "This is our kindergarten, mountains, river and trees" – explained inspired Saida the meaning of every dash. The Kindergarten #19 of “Garmdon” mahalla, which is a target mahalla of the joint project of the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme "Enhancement of living standards in Fergana Valley", located in Kushtepa district of Fergana region. During community information meeting the residents came to a consensus that within 12 mln sums, allocated by the project, they would implement 3 projects: 2 on improving utility services in kindergartens #19 and #42 and 1 project on improving drinking water supply in the community “Garmdon”. By the way, these projects serves as a good example of successful cooperation of international, public and private sectors: in implementation of such social infrastructure projects along with EU and UNDP, district and regional administrations, “Mahalla” Foundation, small business representatives take part.
Going back to our kindergarten #19, let’s calculate the scale of community residents’ benefits. Prior to the repairing works and building improvement only 10 children were attending the institution, whereas now every morning about 100 kids hurry up to go to the kindergarten. Additional 27 job places were provided, including 10 educators and 12 nurses.Realizing that the contribution to the all-round development of children cannot be limited to improvement of material and technical basis, a series of trainings on Family Education and implementation of educational programs were undertaken for six kindergartens’ teachers in cooperation with UNICEF during 2009. Those events were aimed to introduce various educational programs to children, as well as resource mobilization tools and management in kindergarten.
Witnessing the joy of children, small business representatives expressed their wish to join good deeds. - I would like to contribute to the development of a healthy and educated generation – shares his plans Muhammadali Khaldarov, a local farmer. – Coming months I intend to make garden place more comfortable area and give it more modern look.
October 25th, 2010 to the birthday of the United Nations, was a memorable day for kids. The charity action involved not only ELS team, but also representatives of the district Khokimiyat, “Mahalla” Foundation, who presented kindergarten all necessary items for the harmonious development of the kids: toys, albums, paints, colored paper, and more.
May children's drawings be beautiful, which are reflecting their own world – a world where they live. For information: Within the cooperation framework with UNICEF during 2009-2010 Project assistance was provided to local authorities in achieving the MDGs on "improving the quality of primary and secondary education”, where ELS has improved communal infrastructure in six kindergartens of Kushtepa and Besharik districts, including renovation of rooms specially established for the group of children from low-income families, as well as improving access to natural gas, drinking water, and electricity, resulting in positive impact on child nutrition, conditions for personal hygiene and health.
