Mr. Soren Klem, the European Commission
Task Manager for the Enhancement of Living Standards Projects in
Karakalpakstan and Namangan visited the Republic of Uzbekistan from
October 5, 2005 till October 7, 2005.
Mr. Soren Klem, the European Commission Task
Manager for the Enhancement of Living Standards Projects in
Karakalpakstan and Namangan visited the Republic of Uzbekistan from
October 5, 2005 till October 7, 2005. Financed by the European Union
and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, the
Enhancement of Living Standards Projects in Karakalpakstan and Namangan
projects offer concrete opportunities to local communities to be
engaged in their socio-economic development and play an active part in
the enhancement of their living standards.On 5th October Mr. Soren Klem participated
in the meeting of the Steering Committee of EU/UNDP projects
“Enhancement of Living Standards in Karakalpakstan and Namangan Region”
where the committee reviewed the results achieved by the projects and
discussed future implementation. On October 6th Mr. Soren Klem visited Chordona community in
Mingbuloq district of Namangan Region, and attended the official
opening ceremony of the village health point which will serve 3105
people. The village health point resulted from a project proposal
submitted to the EU/UNDP project “Enhancement of Living Standards in
Namangan Region” by the Chordona community. The health centre was built
with the financial support of EU/UNDP and of the Khokimiat of Mingbuloq
district, the local community and the district’s public health
department.The project works with 50 communities and local
authorities on the development of regional and local strategies, the
rehabilitation of social infrastructures and facilitates access of poor
and small farmers to micro- financing in the three pilot districts of
Chartak, Kasansay and Mingbuloq. The project uses the Millennium
Development Goals for dialogue with the communities to address
development issues by relying on their strengths and abilities. The
project’s duration is 2 years (2005-2006). |
