This decision was made by the children
who have taken part in the drawing competition on the Millennium
Development Goals conducted on December 19 – 31, 2005 in school #1 of
Mingbulak district in Namangan region.
On December 22 there was a beautiful and a
festive atmosphere in mahalla Chordona in Mingbulak district. Children
have been drawing pictures with enthusiasm, trying to depict their
understanding of their own life and ways to improve living standards.Such an interesting task was given to the children by the
competition organizers – the UNDP and European Union supported project
“Enhancement of Living Standards in Namangan region.” The project has
recently helped the Mahalla Chordona to turn an old building into the
Village Medical Point in Gurtepa Village Citizens Council.
The children competition has the title “How can our community contribute to reach Millennium Development Goals related to Health”. Health and the MDGs are a major focus of the ELS project.
The ELS project conducted a presentation in the school to make the
school children and teachers aware of the Millennium Development Goals
and of those activities undertaken in Namangan region to reach them.
After that, the children were asked to draw pictures of their own
understanding of the theme of the competition.
“It is a good and new idea” - says school director Solijon Parpiyev “Children
and teachers embraced it with great interest. Our school is one of the
most remote in the district and we enjoy such kind of events”
“We hope that the Competition will help children to better
understand the Millennium Development Goals, especially those related
to Health. It is a very actual theme at the end of the “Health Year” and on the eve of the coming “Year of Charity and Medical personnel”- says ELS Task Manager – Sherzod Qoorbonov.
All participants in the Competition will be awarded with presents.
The winners will obtain additional gifts. The best pictures will be
used to illustrate booklets and posters to be published by the UNDP and
EU project.
