On March 18, 2008 the EU-UNDP “Enhancement of Living Standarts in Andijan and Namangan regions” (ELS) project organized a seminar in Andijan for representatives of regional government authorities and public organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mahalla Fund, “Soglom avlod uchun” Fund and others. The training session began with a discussion
of the regional development process in the region and its link to the
Welfare Improvement Strategy Paper and the Millennium Development
Goals. ELS staff also shared information on how the project approaches
community development and its previous experience in implementing
community projects. The project in Andijan region will support
regional authorities in the preparation of regional development
strategy and replicate the participatory development approaches
successfully introduced by the ELS projects in Karakalpakstan, Namangan
(Phase I) and Fergana regions. The focus is on capacity building of
local authorities and institutions in regional planning, and concrete
pilot applications of development planning at community level. This
will be achieved through training in regional development planning
organized as a series of complementary modules delivered independently
by various organizations, such as UNDP, UN agencies and a number of
national research centers. |
